The 401 was a gigantic mess outside of Woodstock last night around 6:00 p.m. with at least 4 collisions in the E/B and W/B lanes.
WOODSTOCK - It was a long commute home for anyone who takes the 401 through Woodstock last night.
Around 5:30 p.m. police responded to several collisions in both the East and West bound lanes. At one point the Highway was shut down at the 401 W/B for several hours after a tractor trailer jacked-knifed and came to a rest blocking all three lanes. It was one of two collisions on the W/B, with another vehicle slamming into the emergency wall.
Police and Fire were also responding to at least two separate collisions on the E/B lanes near Towerline Road. One of the collisions involved another jacked-knifed transport truck and a vehicle that had slammed into it's side. As of this writing we have received no reports of any serious injuries from any of the collisions.
OPP and Woodstock Police are once again reminding drivers to slow down in bad weather, drive to the conditions and make sure you are leaving plenty of space between vehicles. The 401 turned into a sheet of ice in a matter of minutes last night thanks to the freezing rain that started around 5:00 p.m.
