Oxford County is getting ready to enter into the Smart Cities Challenge, but first they have to rally support from the local municipalities.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County's Manager of Strategic Initiatives is going around to all of the local councils, in order to rally support for a joint submission into the Smart Cities Challenge.
Jay Heaman visited Woodstock City Council last night to talk about the national competition.
"It's a challenge that was released by Infrastructure Canada and it's really raising the bar. The Minister (Amarjeet Sohi) is challenging all Canadian municipalities to think outside of the box and come up with a grand plan based on some of the biggest needs in their respective communities."
The best entries in the contest will receive cash prizes that range between $5 million and $50 million.
Heaman says there are some great projects going on in the Friendly City.
"We have the Blossom Park new build that's going to be 34 units built in the passive house standard and hopefully we can displace all of the energy requirement from renewable after that. We also have the Sustainability Cluster concept that would be going in County Courthouse Square."
Heaman hopes to gather support from all of the local municipalities, before the submission due date of April 24th.
