The L.B. Thomson Award was handed out at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show. Executive Director of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association, Andrew Graham was given the honour.
WOODSTOCK - An award has been handed out at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show.
Today (Wednesday, September 13th), the L.B. Thomson Award was given to Andrew Graham by the Soil Conservation Council of Canada.
Graham is the Executive Director of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association, and says what the process was for the decision to be made.
"By 2010 the award gained national scope. It has now been entrusted to the Soil Conservation Council of Canada to choose candidates, and that led to me being named and awarded the presentation today."
The award is given to an individual or organization that shows significant contributions in keeping Canada's soil healthy.
Graham talks about the career he has had, which led up to the award being given to him.
"I started at the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, and then I moved over for a few years working out of the County Office here in Woodstock with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, then I spent the remainder 33 years with Ontario Soil and Crop."
Graham says his 43 year career has always been about soil and water conservation.
He has led the delivery of many education and stewardship programs that helped countless Canadian farmers to sustain and improve the health of their soils.
