It's National Non Smoking week and Southwestern Public Health says now is the perfect time to quit smoking.
OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health is encouraging smokers to butt out during National non smoking week.
Health Promoter Ashlyn Brown says the first thing you need to do when quitting smoking is to find some support.
"Whether they are getting support from friends or family to encourage them to quit, you can also find support through the smokers helpline and telehealth, which are virtual supports that people can access."
She adds that quitting smoking is not easy, and it often takes a couple of tries.
"We understand that quitting smoking is often a process and just because a smoker slips and has a cigarette doesn’t mean their attempt to quit has failed. It often takes many attempts to quit smoking for good. The
skills that people build each time they attempt to quit smoking and the support that they receive while quitting can increase the chances of quitting for good."
Brown says quitting smoking now is twice as important right now, as it can cause you to experience more severe symptoms of COVID-19.
