WOODSTOCK - Council members and sponsors from across Oxford County lined up for the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Nellis Towers Affordable Housing Unit.
The building has been in the works for 3 years, ensuring the units would be affordable and accessible for residents. It features 4 floors filled with 97, with approximately 30 of those being accessible. There are one- and two-bedroom units available with a variety of open floor plans, including some with balconies.
Each floor is also equipped with a lounge area and laundry facilities for residents.
The lobby boosts a bright and open environment, leading out to a back courtyard for residents to enjoy. The main floor also features a community kitchen and hangout, library and meeting rooms. Common areas are set up with public Wi-Fi for residents to enjoy.
Warden Marcus Ryan says the county is more than excited to open the building to those in need.
"There's over 60 people now who now have homes, and even more space for more than one person in the units."
Resident Manager Nathan Teixeira added that they have a variety of events to keep the residents busy, including bingo nights and planned group dinners.
Mayor Jerry Acchione said that Nellis Towers is just the beginning of affordable housing in Oxford.
"Recognizing the huge need here in Woodstock for affordable, clean safe places to live is key."
The building has 67 units currently occupied, and more residents are moving in at the end of the month.
