Ontario's Top Doctor says plans for a fall rollout are underway
Get set for a new round of COVID-19 booster doses this fall.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says preparations for a fall COVID-19 strategy are well underway, including vaccinations, and officials are going through various scenarios such as an aggressive flu season and new COVID variants.
Dr. Kieran Moore says there will be another booster dose available for the people most at-risk, with the potential to then open it up to the general public.
Moore says by the fall a new generation of vaccine will be available that targets both the original COVID strain plus a more up-to-date one that is circulating, such as for Omicron.
Earlier this week Moderna said its experimental COVID-19 vaccine that combines its original shot with protection against the Omicron variant appears to work.
Preliminary study results showed people given the combination shot experienced a higher boost in Omicron-fighting antibodies than if they just got a fourth dose of the original vaccine.
