New Technological Education Curriculum in Ontario.

Students in Grades 9 and 10 will now have to take tech courses this September, to graduate.

ONTARIO - Teachers and principals in Ontario think the government is not prepared to implement its own policies in the education system.

The provincial government has a proposal to let principals assign teachers without technological credentials to teach certain tech courses in September.

Last year, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced that in 2024, high school students will have to take a tech or skilled trades course in Grades 9 or 10 in order to graduate.

However, there is a shortage of teachers. Creating a new mandatory course that teachers would have to find new ways of teaching with no experience, will add more burden on overworked educators.

Lecce says the government is exploring options while recruiting and retaining qualified educators across Ontario.

The government's focus is to ensure students have the most up-to-date curriculum that strengthens their life and job skills.
