The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation is reminding everyone about the dangers of carbon monoxide this summer.
You may take a summer vacation, but carbon monoxide does not.
The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation for CO Safety is in the midst of their summer CO safety campaign stressing the importance of life saving CO alarms.
Founder John Gignac knows people don't think about CO safety too much once the muggy weather hits.
"Everybody thinks the heating season is over, we don't have to worry about carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide lurks behind every corner and if you're on vacation you better protect yourself because it can take one of your loved ones and that's what we're trying to prevent."
Popular summer vacation destinations like cottages, trailer parks, and campgrounds hide carbon monoxide according to Gignac.
"People have to remember Carbon Monoxide is present whether it be in boats, RVs, tents, trailers, cottages - so it's important for them to take one of the portable CO alarms with them."
Carbon monoxide is an odourless, tasteless gas that can kill. Without an alarm it is impossible to detect.
Gignac also reminds everyone those alarms have a shelf life; before heading out on a trip, be sure to test those CO alarms and be sure to install fresh batteries.
