Norfolk OPP are reminding residents there is no need to call 911 for raccoons.
NORFOLK COUNTY - Raccoons and other non-emergency calls are swarming Norfolk OPP lately.
They would like to remind the public that 911 is only for emergencies.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says these kinds of non-emergency calls should be directed at a private animal removal service.
"The OPP does not have the equipment to trap and house live animals or transport wild animals. Calling 911 for raccoons, tie up the phone lines at the communications centre, waste taxpayer money, tie up law enforcement officers and threaten lives. A private animal removal service should be contacted instead of calling 9-1-1."
Residents should be aware that nnot all raccoons have rabies and it's normal for them to be out in the day.
