It's Beach Day for local students so you can expect an increased Norfolk OPP presence in Long Point, Turkey Point, and Port Dover.
NORFOLK - The beaches in Long Point, Turkey Point, and Port Dover are expected to see a swarm of students as teens celebrate Beach Day.
The unofficial event takes place each year on the first Friday in June, and Norfolk OPP Community Safety Officer Andrew Gamble explains what the day is for students.
“Beach Day is a long-standing tradition in Norfolk County. Long and short of it, students leave school, with parental consent or without parental consent, and attend a number of our beach areas.”
Gamble says you can expect to see an increase in police presence in Long Point, Turkey Point, and Port Dover today, focusing on safety for everyone.
“That is our number one priority, and that should be everyone's priority if they are attending those beach areas whether that’s a student or a visitor.”
If you are planning to go out to the beaches today, plan for extra traffic in the area and use extra caution when traveling.
