NORWICH TOWNSHIP - No one was hurt after a fire at 2001 Enviro Inc in Norwich Township.
All four of the township's fire stations responded to the blaze close to Highway 59 and Old Stage Road at around 4:30 a.m. today.
Director of Fire and Protective Services Derek VanPagee says a mulch pile caught fire.
"Crews responded efficiently and fast. They were able to knock it down and keep it contained to one pile. There was some wind this morning so there was a concern that it might jump to other piles, which it was starting to, but happily our crews went defensive, put those out, and kept it contained."
VanPagee says all of the firefighters on the scene worked together to make sure the damage was minimal.
"All four of Norwich Township's fire stations responded to this fire. At one point I would say that we had 40 firefighters present attacking various (mulch) piles from different angles so we can knock the fire down quickly and efficiently."
VanPagee says only the mulch was affected by the blaze, making this an "outdoor, no loss fire."
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
