Norwich Township Council has declared the Ward 2 Council seat as vacant and a byelection will be held to find the next councillor.
NORWICH - The Township of Norwich will be holding a byelection in order to find a new Ward 2 Councillor.
Alisha Stubbs resigned from the role late last month, shortly after council passed the controversial flag policy bylaw which only allows for government flags to be flown on Township property.
The remaining members of council officially declared her seat vacant during this Tuesday's meeting and decided to hold a byelection in order to find her replacement. The byelection was recommended by staff because we're only a few months into the current term of council. You can read the full staff report online here.
Staff clarified that it would be an in-person vote and the preliminary expenses will range between $13,000 and $15,000.
Ward 2 represents the village of Norwich. Stubbs won the municipal election with 759 votes last fall and she was followed by William Van Lagen with 392 votes and Michael Legge with 135 votes.
