WOODSTOCK - The Oxford County Naval Veterans Association (OCNVA) is inviting members of the public to commemorate the Battle of the Atlantic.
It will be hosting a ceremony at the Woodstock Navy Club on Sunday May 5th.
Association member Dennis Beattie says a colour party parade will kick everything off at 10:45 a.m.
"We have our own colour party, we have the Woodstock Legion colour party, we have the paramedic colour party, we have the police colour party, Cadets, and the Ingersoll Legion. It's going to be big!"
Local dignitaries will also be attending and there will be a light lunch afterward.
Beattie says the battle lasted over 2,000 days, the entirety of World War II. It started in September 1939 and ended in 1945.
"Well the Navy itself lost over 1,700 men, 37 ships and there were other merchants and marines that went down."
Beattie says the Allies also lost 10,000 tons of shipping every 10 hours during the battle.
The Oxford County Naval Veterans Association hosts a ceremony commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic on the first Sunday in May every year.
The OCNVA is also the largest is also the largest Naval Veterans Association in Canada, with over 900 members.
