Flash mob broke out in Woodstock to raise awareness of violence against women and girls
WOODSTOCK - A flash mob broke out in Woodstock this morning (at the CAS building) as part of the global campaign - One Billion Rising For Justice.
Coordinator for the Oxford County Domestic Assault Review Team, Linda Armstrong says the initiative is a peaceful and beautiful way to bring attention to violence against women and children.
"We know that even in our beautiful little communities like Oxford and Perth County, even though it appears to many that these things don't happen, I'm here sadly to tell you that it happens in every community, every County, every Country, every city in the world."
The event began 17 years ago as a call to action based on the statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. Armstrong says that's "one in three too many and it's time to break that chain and the violence."
