ONTARIO - The Province of Ontario announced today they will stop distributing the new faulty licence plates.
Starting on March 5th, Service Ontario will start re-issuing the old white licence plates. Minister of Government and Consumer services Lisa Thompson says they are working to fix the problems.
"The Government of Ontario and 3M Canada are working in partnership to resolve issues that have been raised about the new Ontario licence plates. We take these concerns seriously and together have put a plan in place to deliver an enhanced new plate. 3M Canada is providing material to the Province and testing is being completed by law enforcement and key stakeholders. Manufacturing of the new enhanced plates is expected to begin within two weeks and they will be distributed shortly afterwards. We are pleased to have reached a resolution to this matter at no cost to Ontario taxpayers. We look forward to providing further updates in the coming days to inform Ontario drivers."
3M Canada released the following statement today regarding the licence plates:
"3M Canada and the Government of Ontario are working in partnership to resolve issues that have been raised about the new Ontario licence plates. We take these concerns seriously and together have put a plan in place to deliver an enhanced new plate.
3M is providing material to the Province and testing is being completed by law enforcement and key stakeholders. 3M stands behind our products and has successfully partnered with other provinces to supply license plate materials for many years.
Our customers are our priority and we commit to making the best products to provide solutions for Canadians."
The biggest complaint about the licence plates is they are really hard to see.
