A former politician from Woodstock was honoured today at the Ontario Legislature.
WOODSTOCK - The Ontario Legislature paused for a minute today to pay tribute to a former politician from Woodstock.
MPPs from all three parties rose in the legislature as they honoured former Oxford MPP Charlie Tatham who passed away earlier this year. Tatham also served the public as the Mayor of Woodstock and the Warden of Oxford County.
Local MPP Ernie Hardeman offered up some kind words about Tatham during the tribute.
"Charlie was a true gentlemen and everyone who knew him – and served with him – was better for it. The people of Oxford and the people of Ontario were better for the fact that Charlie served."
Hardeman also talked about how Tatham stayed involved after his retirement and even after moving to British Columbia.
"Being on the far side of the Country didn't stop Charlie from having opinions – and it didn't keep him from being involved in Oxford politics for very long. When I was first elected every few months I would get a call from Charlie who had been reading the Woodstock Sentinel Review and wanted more information or to tell me how something should be done. I really valued those calls."
Tatham's family was on hand for the tribute including his children Pat, Charlene and Peter.
