Ontarians six months and older can now get the latest COVID-19 vaccine with the flu shot for free.
ONTARIO - The province is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against the flu and COVID-19 this fall.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones says starting today, those who are six months and over will be able to get the latest COVID-19 vaccine and the flu shot for free at participating pharmacies, primary care providers and through local public health units.
"Getting your COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot is the best way to keep yourself, your loved ones and your community healthy. Our government is ensuring you have access to the tools you need this fall respiratory season by making COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots available in convenient locations close to home, at no cost to Ontarians."
Officials say it's safe to get both shots at the same time, but won't be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine that protects against the XBB variant if it has been at least six months since your last COVID shot or confirmed infection.
Dr. Kieran Moore, the Chief Medical Officer of Health, stresses the importance of getting vaccinated.
"With the expected co-circulation of influenza, COVID-19 and RSV over the fall and winter, I encourage Ontarians to get their COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot as soon as they can. Especially those who are elderly, immunocompromised, or have medical conditions that make you particularly susceptible to harm from respiratory illnesses."
Southwestern Public Health does not have the flu vaccine right now, so you'll only be able to get that shot at a local pharmacy or your primary care provider.
Our government is ensuring Ontarians have the tools they need to stay safe and healthy during Fall respiratory season.
