Ontario will eliminate license plate renewal fees and license plate stickers for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds starting March 13th, 2022.
ONTARIO - Most vehicle owners in Ontario will no longer have to worry about paying to renew their license plate sticker.
The province has decided to eliminate license plate renewal fees and license plate stickers for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds. The will take effect on March 13th, 2022.
Vehicle owners will still be required to renew their license plate every year or two, free of charge. This will ensure that vehicle owners have insurance and that they are paying outstanding municipal fines and Highway 407 tolls.
The Ford Government is also going to introduce new legislation today, so eligible vehicle owners can receive a refund for the license plate renewal fees they have paid since March, 2020. They will have to confirm that the address on their vehicle permit or drivers license is up to date online here by March 7th. They will also have to pay any outstanding fees, fines or tolls in order to get their money back.
Once the legislation passes, the cheques will be mailed out starting at the end of March and throughout April.
License plate renewal fees and stickers will remain mandatory for snowmobiles and heavy commercial vehicles.
