The OPP and partners will be on the roads for an enforcement blitz as part of Operation Safe Driver Week.
OXFORD COUNTY - There will be an increased police presence on the roads.
The OPP in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation will be out for Operation Safe Driver Week. Sergeant Ed Sanchuck of the West Region OPP posted this message on social media.
"The annual initiative will have the OPP and their partners conducting targeted enforcement among commercial and non-commercial drivers as they focus on how they share the road with one another. Improper lane changes, following too closely, speeding, and other aggressive or careless driver actions and behaviors are among the violations officers will be watching for."
Sanchuck adds how driving should be when sharing the road.
"When commercial and non-commercial drivers share space on our roadways, there is 0 room for aggressive, careless, inattentive and impaired driving."
Last year OPP responded to over 8,800 crashes involving large transport trucks that killed 73 people and injured 905 others. Operation Safe Driver Week runs until July 19th, but Sanchuck says safety on the roads should be the priority of every driver 24/7, 365 days a year.
