Oxford County's opioid exposure and overdose prevention policy will help prevent exposures to opioids for their staff and minimize the impact if they are exposed.
OXFORD - Oxford County Council has put a new policy regarding opioids into action.
At Wednesday's Council meeting, an opioid exposure and overdose prevention policy was brought forward, aimed at ensuring that the county's senior management team has the ability to prevent exposures to opioids and minimize the impact if they are exposed as well as providing information and emergency response guidance.
Warden Marcus Ryan explains how County staff are at risk.
"Public Works staff picking up improperly disposed of needles, Human Services staff dealing with people who are dealing with addiction and substance abuse and there is always a risk that they are going to be exposed."
Warden Ryan also confirmed that distributing naloxone kits is part of the plan.
"At first to high-risk facilities and even high-risk vehicles and then rolling it out beyond that, continually assessing where Naloxone Kits are needed so that if there is an exposure, it can be dealt with immediately.
The policy is in effect immediately, and the implementation plan is currently in progress.
