Oxford OPP officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing in an investigation by the SIU. The Special Investigations Unit looks into police actions anytime someone is seriously hurt or killed in interacting with officers. On Good Friday, March 29th, police were called to a domestic situation in Thamesford, where a 53-year-old man ended up suffering a life-threatening stab wound. In wrapping up its investigation, the SIU says officers knocked on a bedroom door, identified themselves and told the male occupant he was under arrest. Moments later, the man plunged a knife into his left chest cavity. SIU Director Ian Scott confirms the injuries were self-inflicted, saying "Although the man suffered a serious injury, under the circumstances, and in particular the fact that his injuries were self-inflicted, there is patently nothing to investigate. I am closing this investigation." The arresting officers provided the man with immediate First Aid, and he was rushed by land ambulance to hospital in London for treatment. We're told the man is expected to make a full recovery.
