OXFORD COUNTY - Parents in Oxford County are being reminded to monitor their kids’ online activity after the OPP received a complaint of inappropriate messaging.
Constable Ed Sanchuk tells Heart FM the internet is a powerful tool, however it is also a place that can attract predators. "It's amazing to see the type of information are youth are putting online these days, I'll use Facebook as an example people don't realize a lot of the information you put online it makes it easy for people to determine where and when you go to school and if you post photo's on Facebook they no longer belong to you they belong to Facebook."
Sanchuk says some things you can do is set rules about household internet use, always keep your computer in a high traffic area of the home and know your child’s user name and passwords. It's also important to let your children know everything they post online is permanent and to be careful with webcams as your image can be captured. Sanchuk says a good tool to use is to not say anything you wouldn't say in real life.
