A total of 47 residents and 38 staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during the LTC home outbreak at peopleCare in Tavistock that was first declared on December 16th.
TAVISTOCK - The COVID-19 outbreak at peopleCare in Tavistock is over.
The outbreak was first declared on December 16th after 1 staff member tested positive. Since then a total of 47 residents at the home and 38 staff members tested positive for the virus. In total 10 residents died with COVID-19 during the outbreak.
Tavistock as a community came together to support the staff and residents during this difficult time. In an interview with Heart FM in January, EZT Mayor Don Mackay it was a very tough time of for lots of people in the Tavistock community.
"Most of these staff members are local community members and our hearts and thoughts go out to support them. For the residents and families, it's a very stressful time having to realize their loved ones are receiving care but unfortunately with this outbreak concerns are heightened."
peopleCare was one of the first long term care homes in the County to have residents vaccinated. At one point in time, we had as many 12 Long Term Care Home outbreaks in SW Public Health region, with the most serious ones at peopleCare and Maple Manor. Today we only have two active outbreaks in the region.
