A blitz known as 'Operation Zero' resulted in 125 tickets to drivers.
OXFORD COUNTY - 125 tickets were handed out to citizens of Oxford County in a blitz last week.
Woodstock Police and Oxford OPP conducted their 1st blitz of what they called "Operation Zero".
Constable Stacey Culbert, on the success of the program.
"I think it's just basically knowing that the program, it was the 1st of it's kind for Oxford County for us to do this joint initiative. So we're very encouraged by the results and very discouraged that the numbers were so high"
88 of the tickets were for speeding, 8 for no seatbelts, 8 for distracted driving and 21 for other traffic violations.
Culbert says the 8 seatbelts is very disappointing.
"Eight tickets for no seatbelts is unacceptable. We're certainly trying to promote safety on Oxford County roadways and issuing some of those tickets for those people, hopefully that's a reminder to them to start obeying the rules for speed, distracted driving and not wearing your seatbelt as well."
They plan to hold a blitz each quarter with the next one in the fall.
The next blitz will focus on driving around schools.
