As we inch closer to the Christmas holiday, Oxford County waste management officials have some reminders for everyone.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most wasteful.
With Christmas coming up next week, Oxford County waste officials are getting ready for an influx of boxes, ribbon, and wrapping paper at the curbside for pickup.
They would like to remind everyone to remove tape, plastic film, twist ties, and other objects from cardboard packaging before throwing it in your recycling bin. You should also break down and flatten your cardboard boxes, but the bundles can't be larger than 75 x 75 x 20 centimetres.
Make sure you remove all ribbons or bows from your packaging and recycle them if you can. Wrapping paper can be recycled in some cases, but not if it's foil-based.
If you need to get rid of bulky styrofoam, you can drop it off at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility, the Tillsonburg Transfer Station, or the Woodstock EnviroDepot for free.
The Oxford County Waste Management Facility is usually open from 8:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. on weekdays and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, but it will be closed for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
The Tillsonburg Transfer Station will maintain its regular operating hours during the holidays. The Woodstock EnviroDepot will also remain open, but it will also offer two bonus days of full service on Friday December 22nd, and Friday December 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
