OXFORD - Oxford County's tourism specialist has been recognized as the 2022 Tourism Champion of the Year.
Meredith Maywood's brilliant tourism efforts within the county were recognized last week at the Ontario Tourism Resiliency Awards in Huntsville.
Tourism Champion is awarded annually to an individual who embodies Ontario's tourism spirit. Maywood’s selection was based on a number of achievements and collaborations, with her work to support local businesses in recovering from the economic challenges of COVID-19 cited as a major accomplishment. Maywood had many people to thank for the honour.
"When someone receives this award, they are standing there with a community behind them. I am so grateful for Oxford’s community of creators, innovators, and collaborators that have a passion to share Oxford’s stories with visitors, and the community that embraces them. Through massive support from residents and businesses coming to the table with big dreams and a passion to work together, amazing things are happening in Oxford County and people are noticing."
If you're not familiar with Maywood herself, you would certainly recognize the number of local tourism experiences she has developed, including the Oxford County Cheese Trail, Gravel Grazers/Ride Oxford, and the co-brand Oxford Fresh. Through Maywood and Tourism Oxford’s support, several local businesses have developed experiential tourism offerings, such as Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life, Snyder’s Fall Campfires, Early Bird Coffee Roasting Lab, the award-winning Ottercreek Woodworks Tree to Table, and many more.
Tourism Oxford is also the recipient of a Gold Level certificate in Green Tourism for its green tourism offerings. Tourism Oxford partner Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life in Bright also received three honours at the award ceremony: Sustainability, Innovation, and Collaboration.
