The town of Ingersoll is now the home of Oxford County’s first public electric vehicle charging station.
INGERSOLL -
A Level 2 charger can charge the average electric vehicle in about 4 to 5 hours and it costs $2 to use. Manager of Strategic Initiatives Jay Heaman says the Level 3 charger is more time efficient.
"It'll give most electric vehicles about 80 percent charge in 20 minutes. The thought there is in the time it takes you to go in and grab a coffee and take a break, you can go back to your vehicle and have almost a full charge."
It costs $10 to use the Level 3 charger.
Two Level 3 chargers will be installed at the Tillsonburg Tim Hortons in the next couple of months. Another Level 3 charger will be installed at Mister Steaks Trucker's Haven in Drumbo, located just off the 401 highway.
A station identical to the one in Ingersoll will also be installed at the Woodstock Quality Hotel and Suites, right beside the Tesla Supercharger Station. Unlike the Tesla station, the newer FLO stations will be regularly maintained by the county.
Electric vehicle drivers can purchase reloadable FLO cards in order to pay at the stations. Heaman says drivers can also pay through a free smartphone app.
"People would just download it, they would transfer funds to their app and then they would just hold their phone up to the device and start the charge that way."
Once the all of the stations are up and running the county will monitor and conduct studies in order to determine where new stations should be installed in the future.
