Oxford's 17 drinking water systems received largely positive reports from Ministry of Environment inspectors
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County's Water System Performance Report for 2016 contains very positive results.
Inspectors from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change visited Oxford's 17 drinking water systems. Nine of those systems received a 100 percent compliance rate, while the other eight systems were rated between 93 percent and 97 percent.
Deborah Goudreau, Manager of Water Service, tells Heart FM the most notable issues Ministry Inspectors found involved clerical work.
"Some of the issues they found were really administrative issues so some of the documentation that exists. That certainly is a challenge to stay on top of that - we do a really good job but there is always room for improvement there."
Goudreau adds they are quick to resolve any issues that may come up within the systems.
"Any of these issues that do arise and can arise because of equipment failure, human error, or other things are really backed up by other systems. We catch them really quickly, we investigate them, and then we implement corrective actions to make sure they don't happen again."
The county samples raw water and treated water on a weekly basis in order to check for bacteria. Testing is also regularly conducted to check for 70 different chemicals the Ministry has regulated. On top of all of this, the water is also monitored online 24/7 in order to check for chlorine residual.
