PM Asked About Helping Struggling Canadians

Justin Trudeau pointed to GST credit, dental benefits and rental assistance

The Prime Minister is claiming the government is helping struggling Canadians as interest rates keep going up, and inflation bogs down spending power.

During the government retreat in Hamilton yesterday, Justin Trudeau pointed to the GST credit, dental benefits and rental rate assistance, all while claiming Canada's economy is strong.

"Canada has the lowest deficit in the G7, and is one of the only three largest economies in the world that has a Triple A international credit rating," he said.

He added they can make investments, while not provoking the Bank of Canada's need to fight inflation.  However, the Bank just raised the interest rate from 4.25% to 4.5.

The Prime Minister accused the Conservatives of voting against many of their initiatives.  "Who didn't want us to deliver on dental supports for families who couldn't send their kids to the dentist... who objected to us increasing supports for the lowest income renters.  And we delivered those dental and rental supports."

Trudeau also referred to investments in mining, steel at Dofasco in Hamilton, as well as global trade.

As for a number of angry protesters carrying signs with profanity, and yelling the same, the prime minister said he was warmly received by many, calling the protesters an angry handful of people.
