Province Considering Getting Rid of Age Requirement for Booking Second Vaccination

Ontarians may be able to book a second COVID-19 vaccination earlier than anticipated.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says the province is considering allowing all Ontarians 12 and older to book their second dose weeks or months ahead of schedule. 

This week, Ontario residents 80 and older became eligible to book a second dose, with the plan to extend eligibility to all individuals the week of August 9th. 

Elliott told reporters today that discussions to scrap the age requirement are taking place in order to ensure that anyone who wants a second dose can get one quickly. 

"We're looking at all options because we need to stay ahead of this (Delta) variant so that we can then move into stage one and get life back more to normal for people as quickly as we can," she said.

Her comments come a week after the province released an updated plan for second doses. 

That plan would allow people 70 and older to get a second shot the week of June 14th, with the province then switching to a "first-in and first-out" method.
