Starting in 2025, child care centres outside of the national $10-a-day program will no longer receive routine funding from the province.
ONTARIO - Child Care centres that are not participating in the national $10-a-day program will no longer receive routine funding from the province.
The funding backs fee subsidies for lower-income families, but the province will redirect it to the $10-a-day program in 2025. This means new families will not be able to access the financial assistance for their children under the age of five.
However, the families who already benefit from the fee subsidies will continue to receive the financial assistance until their child ages out of daycare or leaves their current provider.
The Ford Government says the redirection of funds could result in a pay cut of $2 per hour for the employees who work at the non-participating child-care centres.
Andrea Hannen, the executive director of the Association of Day Care Operators of Ontario, says this announcement could lead to more non-participating child care centres closing because it will be harder for them to operate.
