The township will be holding a public meeting looking to get input on the Golden Age Active Centre and the types of activities seniors want to do.
BLANDFORD BLENHEIM - The Township of Blandford Blenheim is hosting a couple of public meetings.
They are looking for feedback on a new program they want to launch called the Golden Age Active Centre.
Mayor Mark Peterson says they wanted to build off a successful program that is currently running for youth.
"About a year ago we started a youth program with our service programs at our two schools here and it is very thriving, we have a lot of kids show up, it's on Wednesday night, every other Wednesday, one in Drumbo and one in Plattsville. Now we want to run something like this for seniors."
Peterson says the public meetings are a chance for seniors to let them know what programs they would want included in the Golden Age Active Centre.
"We are going to meet with the seniors next week and come up with ideas with them, to find out what they want, whether it's crafting, an exercise program, really whatever they want."
Since the announcement, Acting Manager of Community Services Trevor Baer says the reaction from the community has been positive and they've already received some good ideas. He says the activities will give people something to do.
"In the summertime they have the parks, they have the other things they can do outside, but in the winter time some people are just trapped in their houses so we feel having something like this is beneficent to the residents and get them out and socialize."
Baer adds it will not impact the budget either.
"This isn't really going to impact the budget too much, it's more of the facility will be here to use and people can come and use it and take advantage of it."
The first meeting is at 3:00 p.m on Tuesday January 8th at the Plattsville Lions Hall.
They will also have public meetings on Wednesday January 9th at the Princeton Centennial Hall at 2:00 p.m. and then again on Thursday January 10th at the Bright Fire Hall starting at 5:00 p.m.
Written comments can also be submitted up until January 11th to Trevor Baer at tbaer@blandfordblenheim.ca.
