Restoration efforts to the water at the Mud Creek watershed near Embro and the Avon River are starting to pay dividends.
Restoration efforts to the water at the Mud Creek watershed near Embro and the Avon River are starting to pay dividends. Thanks to the efforts of the Thames River Anglers the streams are now ready of a major influx of trout. Today the Anglers along with the Upper Avon Conservation Club and Upper Thames River Conservation Authority released a record 5,000 Brook Trout into the watershed. Marketing Specialist with the U-T-R-C-A Steve Sauder says they have been working on restoring the streams for the past two decades. "Many decades ago the trees had been removed around these areas and some had been channelled into ditches, so we have been working with local conservation groups and friends of groups for over 20 years planting trees, adding rocks in some places and installing cobble beds." He adds the streams are now capable of housing several aquatic species not just the Brooks Trout. The record number of fish were released into the streams at two locations this morning.
