A no body checking hockey league for minor hockey players is looking to come to Woodstock this year. The Safe Rep Hockey league could expand from 4-teams to 10-teams in just its second year. That includes a team in Woodstock, serving all of Oxford County. President of the Canadian Independent Hockey Federation Peter Cardo says it's something parents have been calling for. "Great local response from residencts in the community. We're very hopeful that we'll be able to place at least one team in Woodstock this year; we're looking to place a Pee Wee, a Bantam and a Midget team in the Woodstock area". Aside from no body checking, and focus on skills development, Cardo says it's a competitive league that also doesn't overwhelm the kids. Games are only on weekends. "So we're not overloading the kids. They're getting a fair bit of hockey but it's not to the point where they're going to be at the rink 5 or 6, 7 nights a week. They can focus on other interests". Tryouts are in September in Cambridge. For more information, visit their website www.cihfhockey.com.
