Safe Talk is a program that can help you identify the signs that someone could be thinking about suicide or self-harm.
OXFORD COUNTY - United Way Oxford is hosting two training sessions called, Safe Talk.
After receiving some funds from the Oxford Community Foundation, it's given them the ability to help the community with these sessions.
In the seminar, participants will learn how to reach out to youth thinking about suicide and help them keep safe by promptly connecting them to further support. The main focus of the training is to teach participants about their role as a connector.
Community Impact and Engagement Manager, Lindsay Wilson says what the training is for.
"This is a training that's meant to help the community at large. Really this training is for anybody to recognize the signs of suicide and self-harm in other people and intervene, so connect those people to the right support."
Wilson also adds it's for people who work closely with youth specifically.
"That could be volunteering coaching teaching those kinds of things we really wanted to focus on people who support our young people who we know are really struggling."
This is a trademark program that is run by a company called Living Works. Jenilee Hall is licensed to be able to deliver the training for those interested..
Each session is three hours long. The session is happening this Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the next will be happening in April.
Registration details have been posted on the United Way Oxford Facebook page.
