A 36 year old man from Central Elgin has been charged with second degree murder.
OPP have arrested a Central Elgin man after a fatal shooting on New Years day.
Police were called to a home on North Street, Sparta in Central Elgin after reports of gun shots around 6:50 pm on January 1st. One man was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Police are not concerned for the public's wellbeing and this is not believed to be a random incident.
36 year old Devon Vandendriessche of Central Elgin has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time until next of kin are notified.
Vandendriessche will make his first court appearance on January 7.
UPDATE: Police have identified the man who died in the New Years Day shooting in Sparta. The Elgin County OPP say 35-year-old Christopher Robert Roy of London died in hospital.
