"It feels really good (laughs), I'm still quite excited today." - Shep Ysselstein A congratulations is in order for Oxford County's Shep Ysselstein. The Owner and Cheese Maker at Gunn's Hill Artisan Cheese has won at the Canadian Grand Prix of Cheese. Shep's "Five Brothers Cheese" won for best "Firm Cheese" in all of Canada. He says the win, at a Gala event last night in Montreal, came as a shock. "To be honest, I didn't really expect to win at all. They (competitors in category) were two well more established cheeses we were going against from Quebec, and then they said 'Gunn's Hill' and that was definitely extremely exciting for us." Shep is spending the day touring different cheese shops and factories in the Montreal area before returning home. He's been making cheese on his farm, south of Woodstock, on Gunn's Hill Road, for just 2-years. He says the win means a lot to him, and his business. "It's really special to be recognized as a champion this year. You know, hopefully that can be a way we can market our cheeses." Click here for more info on Gunn's Hill Artisan Cheese. The win should also garner some more attention for the Oxford County Cheese Trail, that was just launched last month. Gunn's Hill is one of the stops on the trail that hopes to boost tourism in Oxford County.
