The Community Free Table will be holding an outdoor sleep out in support of the Tiny Homes Project in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The Community Free Table is working alongside Woodstock-Oxford Rotary Club and other local organizations in order to address affordable housing in our community.
They're working together on the Tiny Homes project, which will provide small homes of about 100 square feet to those in need.
Community Free Table Founder Chris Eby says it's very hard for someone with a limited income to afford a roof over their head.
"If you sit back and look at the rent for a room right now, just a room with a bed, a dresser and maybe a chair in it, you're looking at anywhere between $850 to $1,000 per month."
Eby says those on Ontario Works receive $390 per month for housing and those on ODSP receive $540 per month for housing.
The Community Free Table is going to host an outdoor sleep out on Saturday April 17th in order to shine a light on the importance of the Tiny Homes project. Eby is going to spend the night outside the Church of the Epiphany with a handful of university students.
"We are going to sleep out there and we're going to be in the cold just like the homeless are here because we see the need to get a push going."
The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. on the Saturday and it will end 24 hours later.
