The SIU found no reasonable grounds to charge an officer in connection to an overdose at the Tillsonburg OPP detachment.
TILLSONBURG - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has wrapped up its investigation into an overdose in Tillsonburg.
Officials say a 39-year-old man was arrested by a London Police officer on December 22nd, 2024 and taken to the Tillsonburg OPP detachment.
He had his video bail hearing the next morning, but was later found unresponsive in his cell before he could be transported to a detention centre. Narcan was administered and paramedics took him to the hospital. Investigators determined that he had consumed fentanyl that he secreted in one of his body cavities.
The SIU has found no reasonable grounds to believe the arresting officer committed a criminal offence in this case.
The SIU investigates incidents with police that result in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm.
