The Tillsonburg Fire Chief is reminding everyone about the importance of smoke alarms after a small garage fire in Potters Road area yesterday.
TILLSONBURG - No one was hurt after Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue Services responded to a small garage fire in the area of Potters Road and Harvest Avenue.
Chief Shane Caskanette says the call came in at around 6:00 p.m. yesterday.
"Fire crews responded to the Potters Road area for a reported garage fire. On arrival, they had witnessed a small fire in the garage that the homeowner had actually extinguished with a garden hose."
He says the garage sustained some smoke damage but it could have been worse if the fire had escalated.
Caskanette would remind everyone about the importance of smoke alarms.
"The takeaway here is if we could have everyone test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and just be cautious when working in the garage area so everyone remains safe and vigilant that way."
