Families are invited to a free outdoor screening of Trolls on the big screen in Stratford tonight.
STRATFORD - Families are invited to a smoke free movie night in Stratford tonight at the SERC at Matilda and Oakdale Avenues.
They will be showing the movie Trolls on an inflatable big screen. Things get started at dusk and families are invited to come early for games, activities and a photo booth. They will also be handing out free popcorn while supplies last.
The outdoor movie night event is taking place to educate parents about the health risks smoking in movies can have on children and teens. Public Health Promoter Lindsay O'Donnell says when kids see tobacco use on-screen, it increases the chance they will start to smoke.
"The smoking shown in movies happens at a much higher rate than it does in reality, and many of those films are rated for children and youth and we know that when kids see tobacco use on-screen, it increases the chance they'll start to smoke."
It is being hosted by the Perth District Health Unit, the THINK team, and the City of Stratford.
If it rains they will take the movie inside to the Rotary Complex. Follow the THINK team on Facebook and Twitter @THINKPerth for event details and weather updates.
Woodstock is also hosting a Smoke Free Movie Night next Friday at Southside Park. Heart FM will have a full story on the Woodstock Smoke Free movie night in the news next week.
