Natalie Geerlinks is getting recognized for one of her 18 acts of kindness.
WOODSTOCK - A young Sobeys Woodstock employee is taking home the Corporate Community Spirit award.
Natalie Geerlinks took it upon herself one Friday night last fall to pay out of her own pocket every time someone said no to the quarter donation at her till as part of the Food for Friends program.
Assistant Store Manager Stephanie Harnock nominated Natalie for the award.
"I thought what she did, donating the extra quarters on behalf of the customers, I thought that took a lot of initiative through a young girl like her to make that decision. It was a great way to show that our employees do care about the community that they work in."
Harnock says Sobeys operates on has four core values.
"We nominated Natalie based on Proudly Serve Our Community. She was chosen as one of six people to receive that award. She gets to go and have a dinner and awards ceremony put on by Sobeys so a very proud moment for us with her."
Harnock says Natalie's win has been inspiring to others in the store.
"I've actually had two winners out of our little store so another one won our core value of Staying Real. Just seeing that this program does work and people are being recognized for their efforts and dedication to the company definitely spreads around the store."
