Six teams will hit the Southside Park ball diamonds this Saturday for the Hometown Games Softball Tournament.
WOODSTOCK - The Hometown Games Softball Tournament for Special Olympics Ontario is coming to Woodstock.
This Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Southside Park ball diamonds will be packed with teams from around the area, including Woodstock's own Special Olympics team.
The Community Coordinator for Special Olympics Woodstock Vicky Deschenes says that volunteers are still needed to be scorekeepers and runners.
"I just want everyone to know that if you volunteer with the Special Olympics and you want a thank you, you won't get it, but you will get it from the athletes because they appreciate everything you do, and it is the most fulfilling thing that I have ever done"
She also recognized the sponsors for their food contributions, Tim Horton's on Devonshire, Food Basics, Foodland, and Gary Farrington of Farrington Plumbing.
Ontario Special Olympics is so enthusiastic about the return of this event after a long couple of years off, that it is covering the remaining costs to make sure athletes get back into the game.
Those wishing to volunteer are encouraged to email Deschenes directly at vickydeschenes@outlook.com.
