WOODSTOCK - The St Mary's Warriors Junior Ladies Volleyball team from Woodstock are Wossa Champions.
They won the final tournament on their home gym yesterday.
The Warriors beat College Ave in the semi's before taking on St. Mike's from Stratford in the finals. Athletics Department Head at St. Mary's Thersea Simpson says it felt really good to beat a powerhouse team like St. Mikes.
"The thing is, St. Mike's is a powerhouse, they are a volleyball city, we knew they were strong, they beat us before in our home tournament in December, so we knew that we had to have our A game and we actually took them in three straight sets. We had the gym rocking with great support from our fans and our fans help to put us over the top. It was pretty emotional, our girls fought hard and they were into the games, the match, the student body, the parents, grandparents everyone was rocking."
Simpson says they are extremely proud of the girls.
"All of us, the coaches, everyone we are all so proud of the girls, they did an amazing job."
The St. Mary Warriors Junior girls team is made up of grade 9 and 10's. They won a qualifying tournament on Tuesday for the right to host the tournament yesterday.
