Mike Eckart's name has been added to the newly constructed recognition wall within the Oxford County Administration Building.
OXFORD COUNTY - A Zorra Township resident has been presented with the Oxford Stewardship Award for 2016.
Mike Eckart has been honoured for planting 1,000 trees on his property and for making significant improvements to eroded land. Eckart says we need to take care of our environment.
"Preserving all land is important because it's not really ours; really God has given it to us and expects us to look after it."
Eckart's name has been added to the recognition wall within the Oxford County Administration Building. He was also presented with a gift basket containing Oxford County produce Wednesday night.
The Oxford Stewardship Award presented annually to a landowner who demonstrated exception stewardship on their property. A committee narrows down three potential recipients each year. The Oxford Soil and Crop Improvement Association and Stewardship Oxford always select the winner.
Mike Hawkins of South-West Oxford and the Frazer Family from Zorra Township were with Eckart in the top three. The stewardship efforts made Eckart, Hawkins and the Frazer Family received support from Oxford County's Clean Water Program.
