For the second year in a row, Woodingford Lodge Roll and Stroll will take place on Friday, this time complete with costumes.
WOODSTOCK - Residents, along with their families and staff, will take part in the Roll and Stroll fundraiser at the Woodingford Lodge.
This is the second year in a row the event is being put on by the long-term care facility.
Coordinator of Resident Support Services and Recreation, Patricia Godfrey says the event is in support of the Dairy Capital Run. She says it will go on regardless of the weather that day.
"Our Roll and Stroll event is in support of the Dairy Capital Run for the Woodstock Hospital. We thought it'd be an amazing time for our seniors to support and show support for their community, by continuing to be involved in the fundraising events. So because we can't be involved in the actual Dairy Capital Run down at the park each year, we decided that we would have our own little event here at Woodingford Lodge. So rain or shine, everybody gets some pledges and we take a walk around the outside of the building if it's beautiful out, or we have a route on the inside of the building if it's not conducive to good walking outside."
The event is free to attend and people are encouraged to raise pledges for the local hospital. The pledges cost $5.00.
This year's fundraiser is a super hero themed event. The residents will pair up with family members, staff or volunteers and take a lap around the facility dressed as their favourite superhero.
Godfrey says the event allows the seniors to support local causes and stay connected to the community.
"This type of event allows our residents to maintain that community connection, to say to everyone 'look, I'm here. I'm still involved in my community, we're not just locked up inside a long term care home.' We're here, we realize the importance of these things and these events and how important it is to have the whole community involved. And here we are showing you we're still here."
The proceeds will go towards the Woodstock Hospital Foundation, helping them raise money for their new surgical table for their outpatient clinic.
The event is on June 7th, starting at 10:30am.
