A tree fire believed to be started by a lightning strike causes gas lines to rupture.
SOUTH-WEST OXFORD -- A fire due to lightning is being blamed for a gas leak in South-West Oxford.
OPP say around 10:00 pm Wednesday night they responded to the scene of a reported gas leak on Karn Road, just west of Woodstock.
South-West Oxford/Beachville fire department were called to extinguish a tree fire, believed to be ignited by a lightning strike.
Natural gas lines in the immediate area were ruptured due to the impact. Union Gas were called in to turn the gas off and police closed Karn Road at Dodge Line, as well as Bowerhill Road at Mill Street.
Three area residents were evacuated for precautionary measures and other homes in the area were notified of the gas leak.
The gas leak was fixed and the roads reopened shortly before 6:00 am Thursday.
Accorind to Oxford OPP, no injuries were reported.
