SWPH Reports No New Measles Cases

The local health unit was the measles hotspot in Canada a few months ago.

SWPH - No new cases of measles have been reported in the Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) region over the past week.

That's according to the latest report from Public Health Ontario, which breaks down the case count for each health unit in the province. A total of 22 new cases were reported across Ontario last week including eight in the Huron-Perth Public Health region, four in the Grand-Erie Public Health region, and one for Chatham-Kent Public Health.

This brings the provincial total to just under 2,300 since the outbreak began in October, 2024. SWPH has accounted for most of those cases with 758 total.

The local health unit represents Oxford, Elgin and St. Thomas. It was considered a measles hotspot in the country not too long ago, having the highest case count in April while also accounting for 45 percent of the cases in Ontario.
