The most wonderful time of the year can be a dangerous time for your furry friends.
OXFORD COUNTY - Members of the OSPCA want to make sure all pets have a safe and happy winter holiday season.
OSPCA Media Coordinator Kallie Milleman says holiday plants including poinsettias, holly and even some lilies have been proven to be dangerous for cats and dogs.
"We don't want our pets eating the plants that are around the house so try to keep them out of reach if possible. I always opt for a fake poinsettia that looks really good and still gives you all of that holiday cheer without all of that danger."
You should also keep those holiday treats and even some decorations away from your pets, because they can make them ill.
Now that December is here it's starting to get a little colder outside. You should still take your dog for walks when it's cold, but maybe adjust your routine so you're not out as long.
Milleman says you should also make sure your pets are bundled up.
"There are lots of sweaters and coats that you can purchase for your dog. I would suggest taking them to the pet store and actually fitting them with it right then and there because you do want to make sure it's comfortable for them to wear outdoors."
Milleman suggests buying your dog some sort of paw protection, so in other to shield them from the road salt.
You should also keep your dog's size and fur coat in mind when you let them out for a pee. A chihuahua won't be able to say outside as for long as a husky.
