Public Health hosting a community meeting Wednesday to discuss concerns surrounding air-quality in Beachville.
BEACHVILLE - Oxford County residents are getting the chance to share their thoughts on the Beachville air-shed work plan.
Public Health is hosting an information session Wednesday to explain key steps in the work plan which was created in response to community concerns about air quality due to existing aggregate operations in the area.
"It will include information in relation to air monitoring, the review of scientific evidence and our education and reach activities. The work plan is being delivered to determine whether or not the aggregate operations in the Beachville area are adversely effecting air-quality and thereby human health," says Program Supervisor of Health Protection with Oxford Public Health Peter Haywood.
"It's a venue for the public to share their thoughts around this particular issue. It's going to be more of a listening session more than an information session. It's designed so that we can have lots of great input from the community."
Public Health Ontario Chief of Environmental and Occupational Health Dr. Ray Copes, who is part of the consultation team, will be on hand to answer questions from the public as well as Oxford County’s Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Douglas Neal and Public Health staff.
The work plan investigation will be led by Oxford County Public Health in partnership with Public Health Ontario and in consultation with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. The project will collect new, independent air quality data and examine scientific research on whether or not aggregate operations can cause an adverse impact to air quality.
The session runs Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Colombo Club on West Hill Line in Beachville.
